Spring Break Tunes

Hey-o! It’s March which means it’s officially Spring Break season! I’ve got one more week of classes and then I’ve got a few days off, whoop whoop!

Spring Break just screams “road trip!” to me. Maybe that’s because we used to pack it up and head to Lubbock to see family every spring break. It just feels like the right thing to do; roll the windows down, get a bunch of snacks, a fountain coke maybe and crank up the tunes!

In honor of this road trippin’ season, heres a playlist of some of my more well played songs from the last couple months!

Enjoy, y’all!

Spring Break Tunes!

It's officially Spring Break! It always seems like forever until this one week of heaven shows up and I am ALWAYS happy to see it come!

We opened and closed our spring show last week--what a whirlwind and what a wonderful joy it was! I'm so lucky to work in a department that let's me explore my creative ideas on stage. Each year and each show I continue to grow and fine tune my process and every time I say a piece is my favorite only to find it trumped by the next one. But in all honesty, my absolute favorite most dreamy piece I've created to date was my spectacular "Fireflies" piece. It will always feel like magic to me and I hope to goodness I can reset it again someday!

This Monday is a slow start for me. I slept in until 10:00--who am I?--had a late breakfast, took care of some adulting to-do's and now it's laundry and a little work. I know, working the first day of break but I've got to get a few things done to enjoy the rest of the week.

Lately I've been turning off the podcasts and turning up the tunes. Thanks to my pal, Elizabeth from Loops & Belles, I've been living for her special playlist these days! I thought I'd whip up my own for all my driving and road tripping this break (And yes, Elizabeth, I stole some of my favorite songs off yours because they made me so happy!)!

If you're hitting the road or coasting on a plane this week maybe these songs will bring you some vacation jams, too!

Happy Spring Break, Y'all!

New Day, New Music

I like a good mellow mix of music, something with an easy feel to it. Sometimes I go on a hunt for this music and sometimes I stumble upon something quite wonderful. Apparently I saved this group sometime ago and I only re-discovered them yesterday:

Have a listen! They're pretty great and definitely a must here!

Road Trippin'

It's summer time (almost)! School is out and the weather is beautiful! It's time for some long drives to new places--well, maybe not new, maybe it's just home.

I'm hitting the road back and forth to Texas this summer and I'm going to need some tunes to help the time fly by. In gearing up for all this driving back and forth, I thought it might be fun to share some of my favorite playlists  along the way. I'm new to Spotify (shocking, I know) so we're just going to give it a shot and see what happens.

Really you can't take a road trip, even one you've done hundred of times before, without having some sort of soundtrack to match it. I'm a Texas girl at heart so of course my music roots include country music. It's the first type of station I'll find on the road and my most favorite to listen to and it's always playing in my car.

First up for trip, a whole soundtrack dedicated to some of my favorite female country artists. Every song that's made me love the drive, feel the wind in my hair and belt out for my lonely audience of moi, I put it in here. I solicited my mom and sister to send me their favorites from our road trips past. There's a little old and a little new with a nice rise and fall to match the drive: Super pumped to start followed by the lull of mid-way point and then we're taking it home with a few more faster paced ones.

Too much detail? Maybe. Not a country fan? Probably not for you. Interested in just trying it out? Be my guest! For your enjoyment,

Country Road Trip: All the Ladies!

What's the song you have to have play on your road trips?

Wednesday Jams

1. I'm still alive.

2. There's so much to be done.

To keep me moving and check the to-do's to-done, I'm jamming out to newest favorite album by Cam.

New Jams

My life has been spent immersed in music. Dance class, rehearsals, shows, choir concerts, practices, violin lessons, choreographing--Teaching dance for a living means I am inundated with all kinds music. But when I get to listen just for pleasure, which, sometimes I don't want to listen to anything so my ears can have a break, I've always reached for some of the softer sounds of music; Calm and relaxing, singer-song writer, blue grass, story telling. Move my mind and my spirit in my down time.

Some of my favorite artists have been The Weepies, Mindy Smith, Brett Dennen, Brandi Carlile, and Joshua Radin.  There are so many more, but these are the ones I've bought album after album because I love them.

Side Note: To me, the coolest part about some of my favorite artists is I can remember the person who introduced me to them and when I heard that song for the first time--their music struck me so profoundly that it completely shaped my adult taste in music.

Anyway, today I'm all about the Steve Martin and Edie Brickell's new album, So Familiar.

New Jams

If you're looking for new music today you've probably been turning to Ryan Adams' new album, 1989, his take on Taylor Swift's 2014 record. Well, it's awesome, in case you were wondering, but I found a couple gems this weekend I thought I might pass along.

For a fun, upbeat, club feeling day, try Katharine McPhee's new album Hysteria. Who doesn't love a good dance party?

Personally I connected with an off beat album I happened upon. Truly I selected it on a playlist because I liked the album cover. If you're interested in a little southern rock,  you'll probably like Blackberry Smoke's newest acoustic album, Wood, Wire & Roses.
